Why our program could be right for you

Our Bronx location, which is one of the most diverse counties in the country, informs our long-standing commitment to social justice. While training, fellows gain exposure to a wide range of pathologies and work alongside nationally renowned experts in the fields of cancer and blood disorders. The Albert Einstein College of Medicine Cancer Center is one of the top NIH and National Cancer Institute-funded research institutions in the country, and we also offer fellows access to robust research opportunities.

I love the diversity of our patient population. After training here as a resident and fellow, I truly believe that there is no place like the Bronx to train.

Yixian Li, MD

Pediatric Hematology, Oncology and Cellular Therapy Graduate

Something I really love about CHAM is its amazing mentorship opportunities. Our attendings and faculty are available and accessible, and they’re excited to help support us in our educational and career goals.

Leya Schwartz, MD

Pediatric Hematology, Oncology and Cellular Therapy Graduate

I chose to do fellowship at CHAM for the incredible breadth and depth of pathology I would be exposed to, but I fell in love with the program for the people. Even as a trainee I feel like an integral member of the department.

A challenging and innovative curriculum

Our program includes weekly board-focused didactic sessions, which provide fellows with exceptional education and prepare them to become attending physicians. During their training, fellows attend weekly patient care conferences and multidisciplinary tumor boards, as well as monthly hematopathology conferences. Fellows attend and lead inpatient rounds daily, and perform patient procedures such as lumbar punctures and bone marrow biopsies and aspirates. Fellows are also expected to facilitate day-one talks, treatment plan conversations and end-of-life discussions with our patients and their families. They also manage their own panel of patients in a weekly fellows clinic and learn to manage outpatient care throughout their training.

An unmatched diversity of experience

As a premier academic medical center serving the Bronx, Westchester and the Hudson Valley, Montefiore Einstein offers its postgraduate trainees comprehensive exposure to a broad diversity of patients and pathologies. The diverse range of experience available prepares our postgraduate trainees for future careers in their chosen field, be it in the research or clinical and/or non-clinical setting.
