A Curriculum That Shapes Leaders in MFM

Our Maternal-Fetal Medicine fellowship provides a comprehensive and balanced curriculum that integrates clinical training, research, and leadership development. Fellows progress through a structured three-year program designed to cultivate expertise across all aspects of the subspecialty.

  • First Year: Rotations focus on inpatient antepartum care, ultrasound, reproductive genetics, critical care, and introductory research
  • Second Year: Emphasis is placed on advanced ultrasound training and dedicated research time
  • Third Year: Fellows engage in advanced ultrasound, a supervisory labor and delivery rotation, elective experiences, and continued research

In addition, each fellow gains 4–6 months of concentrated experience in placenta accreta spectrum care and maintains a weekly continuity clinic throughout all three years.

Our fellows receive extensive training in genetic procedures (amniocentesis and chorionic villus sampling), fetal echocardiography, and neurosonography. They also gain exposure to advanced fetal therapy procedures, including fetal blood sampling and transfusion, shunt placement, multifetal reductions, microwave ablation, and fetoscopy. This breadth of experience equips graduates with the skills and confidence to provide high-quality, innovative care and to emerge as leaders in Maternal Fetal Medicine.

Our Bronx population’s high-risk complexity makes our MFM fellowship one of a kind. We learn from diverse diagnoses, patients, and colleagues, experience the full breadth of MFM, and stay rooted in our generalist foundation on Labor and Delivery.

An academic hospital adjacent to Albert Einstein College of Medicine

Our fellowship is based at Jack D. Weiler Hospital, a 421-bed private hospital and New York State–designated Regional Perinatal Center. Training is supported by four ultrasound units that serve as a major referral network for complex fetal anomalies. Fellows learn in a highly collaborative environment, leading weekly multidisciplinary conferences with neonatology, anesthesiology, and other maternal and pediatric subspecialties.

The Maternal Fetal Medicine team works seamlessly with specialized services, including Cardio-Obstetrics, the Women’s Blood Disorder Clinic, the Diabetes in Pregnancy Program, Reproductive Psychiatry, and a dedicated Fourth Trimester Clinic for postpartum care. Fellows also take on active roles in quality improvement initiatives, centers of excellence committees, and medical education.

This rich training environment ensures that graduates emerge as leaders, fully prepared to advance maternal-fetal health in both academic and clinical arenas.
